Local wardens have developed such a bad name for themselves that last month the government announced they would be renamed "community officers".

But as long as errant officers continue to ignore the rules they are paid to enforce, any such rebranding exercise is doomed to failure.

In a photo sent in to Times of Malta on Friday, a local warden's vehicle can be seen parked facing streetside in a Paola residential square - completely violating a sign advising motorists to "park facing building" placed right behind the vehicle.

To add insult to injury, the car's engine was left running for more than five minutes. Signs urging motorists to park facing buildings were introduced precisely to protect pedestrians and buildings from exhaust fumes.

"What if it was my car instead," an outraged reader wrote in. "Would I go scot free?"
