Six aviation companies have started discussions on the possibility of operating under a Maltese registration, Transport Minister Ian Borg said.

Speaking at a conference on business jets currently being held in Malta, he said that the number of planes on the register had reached 270, more than double the number in 2012.

This made Malta one of the European countries showest the highest growth in this sector, he added.

There are 35 companies which hold an air operating certificate, compared to just 18 in 2012.
