St Paul’s Catacombs and the Domus Romana in Rabat and St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta are opening to the public for free today while admission to the Maritime Museum in Vittoriosa will be at a reduced price.

St Paul’s Catacombs, the largest late-Roman underground cemetery in Malta, provides the earliest and largest archaeological evidence of Christianity on the island.

The Domus Romana features a unique mosaic floor and a set of marble statues portraying Emperor Claudius together with his family and other artefacts of the Roman period. Admission to both these sites is free today from 9am to 5pm.

St John’s Co-Cathedral, a gem of baroque art and architecture, was built as the conventual church for the Knights of St John. The Grand Masters and several knights donated gifts of high artistic value and made enormous contributions to enrich it with only the best works of art.

Admission to the cathedral will be for free between 5 and 9pm. Visitors will also have the opportunity to visit the internal balcony, which is being opened to the public for the first time, offering a unique vantage point of the cathedral. Visitors are requested to refrain from wearing stiletto/narrow heels.

Maritime MuseumMaritime Museum

The Malta Maritime Museum, housed in the former Naval Bakery on the Vittoriosa marina, features a collection of over 20,000 artefacts of Malta’s maritime past.

Visitors to the museum will also be able to visit an exhibition of scale models of civil and military aircraft, cars, trucks and motorbikes, figurines, armoured vehicles and various classes of ships from different eras. Admission to the museum is at a reduced price of €2 today from 9am to 5pm.

St Paul’s Catacombs and the Domus Romana in Rabat will be open today for free, and admission to the Malta Maritime Museum, Vittoriosa, including the scale model exhibition, will be at a reduced price of €2. These sites are open from 9am to 5pm (last admission at 4.30pm).

Admission to St John’s Co-Cathedral is free today between 5 and 9pm.
