Last October US President Donald Trump told the widow of an American soldier killed in Niger that her husband knew what he had signed up for. I think the same argument applies to investigative journalists. They know their job is highly sensitive, especially when they go over the limit and try to do a detective’s job single handedly.

Isn’t it safer for journalists to supply their information to the police and stop delving deeper into the fire?

Exposing wrongdoing and corruption might make you a hero, but it also makes you a target. It’s better to play it safe and remain anonymous than to enjoy the limelight at the expense of your life.
