Msida parish church is celebrating the 125th anniversary of its titular statue of St Joseph. The parish community will be holding a programme of activities to commemorate the statue’s arrival in the parish.

The programme starts on Friday at 6pm with Mass after which the statue of St Joseph will leave Msida parish church accompanied by the La Stella Levantina of Attard, followed by a procession to the Immaculate church, Msida, where prayers will be recited. The statue will then be mounted on a van on its way to Valletta. On its entry to Valletta,  the statue will make a stop in front of St Paul Shipwrecked parish church for a short celebration from where it will proceed to the Jesuits church in Merchants Street where it will be met by the Dominican Friars of Valletta. From there the statue will proceed in procession to St Dominic parish church.

On Saturday, the new parish priest of Msida, Fr Simon Sciberras, will celebrate Mass with the Dominican Friars at St Dominic parish church at 8.30pm.

On Sunday, the statue of St Joseph will leave St Dominic church at 8am. The procession, accompanied by the Melita Band of Msida, will make its way along the main streets of Valletta. The statue will make a stop in front of St Augustine parish church and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Sanctuary. At around 9.15am the statue will be mounted on a boat at Marsamxett quay on its way to Msida marina where it will be met by the Melita Band. After a procession along the marina, the statue will be placed in the garden in front of the church where Mass will be celebrated at 11am. Mass will be led by Fr Sciberras. In the evening, after Mass, there will be the translation of the relics of the saint.

On Monday, feast of St Joseph, Solemn Mass will be celebrated at 6pm. During Mass Fr Sciberras will be officially installed as the new parish priest. The Melita Band will take part.
