Plans to build a five-storey guesthouse in Wied Għomor shoud be refused a Planning Authority permit, Front Ħarsien ODZ has said.

The site in question was originally occupied by a 60m2 store.

The environmental NGO said it was also concerned by the piecemeal approach to approving development in this area, which had first seen the Planning Authority approve a 200m2 development on the same site against the advice of the PA's planning directorate in 2015.

The PA is now being advised to approve a far bigger guesthouse by the same directorate.

The front called on the PA to heed the advice of the Environment and Resources Authority, which was objecting to the development because the “the increased volume would be more visually dominant when viewed from the rear onto Wied Għomor", "exceeds the scale and massing of the villa approved in 2015", and "would create a precedent for similar development on existing vacant plots within this area".
