The parish of San Lawrenz will be celebrating the 125th anniversary since becoming autonomous on Thursday.

The need for the area, then known as Ta’ Ċangura to be given parish status had been felt much earlier and its existence is mentioned in documents dating to before the Gozo Siege of 1551.

To celebrate the anniversary, the parish has launched several activities and is continuing with the restoration of the parish church and objects of art including the pedestal and the titular statue.

A group has been set up to pray for the rest of the community every month to continue creating the sense of community which is still very strong at San Lawrenz.

A thanksgiving celebration led by Bishop Mario Grech is being held on Thursday at 6.30pm.
