Fifty public buses have been equipped with free Wi-Fi as part of a pilot project jointly run by Malta Public Transport and Transport Malta.
Commuters on equipped buses, which include both nine- and 12-metre models on a variety of routes, can avail of the free Tallinja Wi-Fi for the next three months. If successful, the service will be rolled out to all buses in Malta and Gozo.
The system was designed and installed by HandsOn Systems who are responsible for the system's maintenance and support, while the data service is being supplied by GO.
Commuters who try out the service can send their feedback to Malta Public Transport on tallinjawifi@publictransport.com.mt.
“This investment is part of our strategy to continue improving the overall customer experience for our passengers” said Malta Public Transport general manager Konrad Pulé. “More and more people are using our buses and we want to offer them the opportunity to keep connected for free during their bus journey.”
Transport Minister Ian Borg was present at the launch of the project, and used the occasion to remind youths aged 16 to 21 that they were entitled to free public transport.
