I have recently returned to the UK following a very enjoyable holiday in Malta.

Walking over the newly-constructed bridge, adorned with the Capital of Culture 2018 flags, and seeing the new Parliament building was a delight. The architecture blended in quite seamlessly, enhancing the capital city. Then, the opera house. Until our guide explained otherwise, our party was convinced that it was a project still in progress, a building site. It crossed my mind that Malta would have an enormous task on its hands to complete it before the summer tourism season.

Valletta deserves so much more. Those in authority who allowed this to happen should hang their heads in shame.
