St Julian's residents frustrated by problems arising from St Patrick's Day celebrations in the town will be able to report them on a dedicated telephone helpline.

Residents will be able to call the helpline between 1pm and 1am this coming Saturday by dialling 2137 3111.

St Patrick's Day celebrations in Spinola Bay and Paceville - which are not organised by the town's local council - have upset locals in recent years, with heavy traffic followed by revellers partying and then leaving the entire area buried in rubbish

In a statement issued on Monday, the St Julian's council said that while it was not responsible for the celebrations, it would nevertheless be setting up a telephone hotline which residents could use.

Councillors had met with party organisers, business owners, police officers and Transport Malta officials in recent weeks to better coordinate events on the day, the council said.

Some key roads, including parts of St George's Road, Ġorġ Borg Olivier Street and Michel'Angelo Borg Street will be closed to traffic. Police and Transport Malta officials will be on site to direct traffic.
