Spazju Kreattiv is showing live the Met Opera’s staging of Gioachino Rossini’s opera Semiramide, his last opera composed in Italy before he left for Paris.

This masterpiece of dazzling vocal fireworks makes a rare Met appearance – its first in nearly 25 years – with Maurizio Benini on the podium.

The story is set in ancient Babylon, now modern-day Iraq, a kingdom which flourished between the 18th and sixth centuries BC.

The all-star bel canto cast features Angela Meade in the title role of the murderous Queen of Babylon, who squares off in breathtaking duets with Arsace, a trouser role sung by Elizabeth DeShong. The cast also includes Javer Camarena as Idreno, Ildar Abdrazakov as Assur and Ryan Speedo Green as Oroe.

Semiramide is showing live in Italian with English subtitles today at 6.55pm at St James Cavalier in Valletta. There will be an encore on Thursday, March 29, at 7pm and on Sunday, April 22, at 2.30pm. For tickets and more information, visit www.kreattivita.org or call the box office on 2122 3200.
