A Daihatsu car and Ford Transit van were the first to catch fire, with flames reported on Triq San Vincenz at around 12.15am, police said.

What happened from there on in remains unclear. Police told Times of Malta that the van had somehow moved forward, hitting a parked Vauxhall and another Daihatsu, with both those cars also catching fire.

Sources in the area said that the Ford Transit van was being driven at the time it caught fire, but police could not confirm this at the time of writing.

The van was found crashed into a wall on nearby Triq Ħal Qormi.

Police officers who got to the scene managed to extinguish one of the fires before Civil Protection Department officials arrived, completed the job and secured the area.

Nobody was injured in the incident. Police are investigating whether any foul play was involved, with magistrate Francesco Depasquale leading an inquiry into the event.
