Adrian Delia’s Sunday morning’s sessions, when he is interviewed on Radio 101, are becoming a very good way of having a good laugh, so surreal have his arguments become.

On February 11, he seemed hell-bent on scaring the wits out of those who are endowed with enough patience to listen to him. The following are more new ‘gems’ to add to his already impressive collection.

According to Delia, “the government is not interested in the health sector”. This when the government has eliminated the enormous problem of having hundreds of medicines out of stock. It has drastically cut waiting lists for various operations. Some very costly cancer medicines are now being given free. Blood-glucose monitors and four test-strips are given daily to diabetic patients free of charge etc. The government wants the public private partnership deal with Steward Health Care precisely to make a further great leap forward in healthcare for Maltese patients.

The Opposition leader added: “The government has threatened and closed one school after another” but did not mention one single such school.

He said Labour is “against teaching and education” when the party has been the pioneer of free education for all, up to university level, and built schools across Malta and Gozo.

A collective agreement has just been signed giving educators in State schools, and, soon, in Church and, hopefully, independent schools too an undreamed of financial package, which makes up for all the years the teaching profession had been totally forgotten by previous Nationalist administrations. Not to mention many other initiatives, such as tablets for students etc.

As if this were not enough, the leader of the Opposition even said the Prime Minister wants to “remove crucifixes” and even “send our children to war”.

Undoubtedly, Delia will regale us with more ‘gems’. He compared himself to Winston Churchill. Just as Churchill won the war against all odds for Britain, so Delia wants his supporters to believe he will win the election.
