A newly-formed young women’s choir called Vox Dulcis Chorale will perform at Palazzo de la Salle in Valletta on Friday.

The programme consists of an eclectic mix of music from various ages and countries, spanning 400 years and three continents.

The styles of music range from Handel’s Cantate Deo to the Zambian folksong Bonse Aba; from the Renaissance canonic texture of Melchior Franck to the traditional Afro-American spiritual Wayfarin’ Stranger and the mysterious Follow the Drinking Gourd.

The moods conveyed during this concert swing from the deeply emotional Shenandoah to the light-hearted minstrel song Ching A Ring Chaw.

On a more modern note, the programme will include a contemporary musical setting of Hark, Hark, the Lark from Shakespeare’s play Cymbeline and two songs by the contemporary American composer Mary Lynn Lightfoot.

The choir will sing under the direction of John Anthony Fsadni while Petra Magri Gatt will be accompanying at the piano. The show will be presented by Francesca Zarb.

The recital, titled Eclectic Voices, is taking place on Friday  at the concert hall of Palazzo de La Salle in Valletta at 7pm. Tickets can be bought at the venue half an hour before the performance.
