Spazju Kreattiv is today showing the film Book of Love, a sequel to the hit 2013 Chinese-Hong Kong romance Finding Mr Right by writer-director Xue Xiaolu.

As much a commentary on modern economic trends and social isolation as it is a romance, the 2016 film illustrates China’s growing love for romantic comedy.

Actors Tang Wei and Wu Xiubo reunite in a new storyline, where two strangers spark up an unexpected romance through handwritten letters.

Casino specialist Jiao Ye (Wei) and real estate agent Daniel Luo (Xiubo) lead unrelated lives in Macau and Los Angeles, until an old book titled 84 Charing Cross Road brings them serendipitously together.

Blaming a sudden wave of misfortune on their copy of the book, both Jiao and Daniel attempt to rid themselves of it by mailing it to the address in the title.  Little do they suspect that they have just entrusted their love lives to the current resident – an elderly matchmaker named Mr Thomas.

Book of Love is showing today at St James Cavalier in Valletta at 7.30pm. The event is being organised by the China Cultural Centre and forms part of the Chinese New Year in Valletta 2018 series. Tickets are available from www.kreattivita.org or by calling the box office on 2122 3200.
