Labour’s political movement was growing on a daily basis, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said on Sunday.

Addressing supporters in San Ġwann, Dr Muscat said the movement would continue to grow, as it was the only one that expressed pride and love for Malta, no matter what.

A survey published by Sunday newspaper It-Torċa shows Dr Muscat enjoys a 25 per cent trust advantage over Opposition leader Adrian Delia. The same survey found that 46.6 per cent of respondents would vote Labour, while 28.9 per cent would vote for the PN.

Dr Muscat said the Labour movement would continue to welcome people with open arms.

While not being perfect, he said the government had shown it was capable of learning from its mistakes, and always worked towards the national interest.

He slammed the Opposition’s “incoherence” and lack of ideas.

Medical cannabis

Dr Muscat said it was still unclear if the PN was in favour of the introduction of medical cannabis. He said Dr Delia has gone from claiming the government wanted to introduce “drug factories” to being in agreement with medical cannabis.

Dr Muscat said the Opposition, unlike the government, did not have the pressure of taking daily decisions.

Despite this, Dr Muscat continued, the PN was not even capable of using the luxury of time to reach a coherent position.

“The PN cannot aspire to lead the country, as it is not even capable of leading the Opposition. This is the cruel truth”, Dr Muscat said.

The Prime Minister said the only thing the Opposition excelled at was tarnishing Malta’s name abroad.

Dr Muscat set his sights on PAC chairman Beppe Fenech Adami, who he said was complicit in lobbying for specific individuals to be given jobs with Wasteserv.

The PAC is investigating the employment of over 100 people at Wasteserv prior to the 2017 election.

MaltaToday have published leaked government emails from 2009 to 2013, showing how staffing at the national waste agency was influenced by politicians.

The last leaked e-mail cited by the paper is February 2013, just one month prior to the general election which swept Labour to power.

In light of these leaked emails, Dr Muscat said Beppe Fenech Adami should immediately step down from the PAC, so the matter can be investigated.
