After the recent rains, many Gozitan families made their way to the countryside to enjoy the scenic beauty of nature, including the San Raflu pond, Il-Wied ta’ Żejta in Victoria and Il-Wied ta’ Marsalforn.

Members of the Eko Skola Victoria Primary School committee recently went on an outing to San Raflu to observe the beauty of nature, with particular attention to birds that live in this area. The students, led by their teachers Jessie Mercieca and Josephine Cachia, together with head of school Lelio Spiteri, are taking part in a project called ‘Birds Unite Us’. In this project the students are sharing their experiences with another school in Poland.

The San Raflu pond is situated on the main road and further along Santa Katerina ta’ Qabbieża Road. It is so called after a tiny chapel dedicated to the Archangel Raphael that stood on the west edge of the natural pond, still partly visible but in ruins.
