A man had to be airlifted after finding himself in difficulty climbing a rockface in Mġarr ix-Xini, Gozo, on Saturday morning.

The 58-year-old Sannat man found himself in trouble after he realised he could not climb back up the valley he had descended, police said.

Members from the Emergency Response and Rescue Corps were called in to help Armed Forces of Malta and Civil Protection Department personnel effect the rescue.

ERRC volunteers used a specialised drone to locate the man in danger.

The rescued man only sustained minor injuries.
