Il-Babaw, an innovative and fun theatre piece by More or Less Theatre, will be staged at St James Cavalier tomorrow at 6pm and on Sunday at 11am.

The title character is a creepy creature who has guarded the prickly pear portal – the entrance to the realm of the fairies – for centuries. Building a reputation as a horrifying monster, the babaw spends his time skulking in the squalid ally that has arisen around the portal, and terrifying anybody who dares to come too close.

His life takes a sudden twist one day when he meets Nina, a seven-year-old girl, who isn’t quite like her peers.

As he gets to know her, the creature learns that Nina, apart from having rather peculiar tastes and an infinitely inquisitive curiosity, needs help – and there seems to be nobody in her life who can offer it to her. This story of an unlikely friendship between a little girl and a scary monster combines fun, excitement and hilarity with heart-warming moments – an ideal mixture to capture children’s imagination.

Il-Babaw will be staged by More or Less Theatre at Studio A, St James Cavalier, Valletta, tomorrow at 6pm and on Sunday at 11am. It is a ŻiguŻajg Festival commission presented as part of the Spazju Kreattiv programme. For tickets, visit www.kreattivita.org.
