Michelle Muscat, the Prime Minister’s wife, has once again been appointed patron of Eurordis, the European Alliance for Rare Diseases.

Mrs Muscat’s fifth consecutive appointment took place during a ceremony in Brussels attended by Belgian princesses Astrid and Ann de Ligne.

Mrs Muscat emphasised the importance of working with patients affected by rare diseases.

In an island like Malta, she said, a person suffering from a rare disease was frequently isolated at his or her own home because of a lack of information on the disease, and also because of lack of support from the surrounding communities.
