A literature contest open to all ages is being organised by Żejtun local council.

The contest is divided into four categories: best writing with the Żejtun dialect, best writing with standard Maltese, best poem, and best writing for youths up to 18 years of age.

Each contestant may submit up to two literature works written in Maltese. Participation is free of charge. The entries will be examined by independent jury.

The best submissions will be published in a booklet that will be distributed to the public free of charge and will be read during the Ġieħ iż-Żejtun ceremony on March 19 at 7.30pm at Żejtun parish hall. During this event, a member of the Żejtun community will be awarded Ġieħ iż-Żejtun for his or her success in contributing to the local, national or international level.

Entries for the Żejtun literature contest must be submitted to the local council or by e-mail to chircop.sean@gmail.com by Saturday. Submissions for the Ġieħ iż-Żejtun award are open until March 5. Application forms for the latter award may be obtained from the local council or online at www.zejtunlocalcouncil.com. For more information, call 2166 3866.
