What was called “apple’s eye” in the news item ‘Man, 75, returns to bay where he met “sweetheart”’ (February 14) is an incorrect translation of Għajn Tuffieħa.

In this case, like many other places, such as Għajn Żnuber, Wied il-Għajn, Għajn il-Klieb or Għajn Barrani and so many other localities, the pre name ‘Għajn’ means that there is a spring of water going down there and that this has nothing to do with the naked ‘eye’ as given to understand with regard to Għajn Tuffieħa Bay, which really should have been translated apple’s springs into English.
