Ship owner Achille Onorato announced that an important agreement was signed last week in Beijing with the GSI shipyard for the construction in Guangzhou, China, of new vessels for both passenger and goods transport.

The ships, which will be LNG-ready, confirm the intention of the Onorato family to invest significantly in passenger transport, with latest generation vessels, to offer a style of navigation guaranteed by more than 130 years of tradition and experience in the maritime transport sector.

With a capacity of 3,765 linear metres, the new vessels will host an array of on-board facilities, including a restaurant, a self-service dining area, a cafe, 536 cabins and room to accommodate up to 2,500 passengers and crew members.

With a 25-knots speed, they will boast outstanding comfort standards, keeping up with the company’s market position.

Spacious common areas with pristine sleek lines, and a pragmatic use of space carefully designed to cater for travellers on the move and ship personnel are just a few of the innovative hallmarks in store for these new vessels.

The two new ships destined for the Onorato family, the first expected to be delivered by April 2021, have been designed to reduce environmental impact, in line with all European and international regulations: when infrastructures permit, it will also be possible to operate the vessels using LNG as fuel.

The contract also contains an option for the building of another four latest-generation ro-pax sister ships, two for the Onorato family and the others for GNV.

“Today we are taking a further step in the process begun some time ago of offering to our cargo and passenger customers the finest network of departures with vessels that are young, efficient and with low environmental impact,” said ship owner Achille Onorato.

“This further step will allow us, as we continue to invest for the long term, to offer a continuously improving service, increasingly consolidating our desire to take the brand Italy proudly across the seas and to constitute a resource and an infrastructure that serves our country, continuing to create new jobs.”

The Onorato Armatori Group has shown that it is aiming for quality and comfort, guaranteeing a wide choice of times and connections, with 41,000 departures for 34 ports planned for 2018.

Moby has been awarded, for the fourth time running, the Seal of Quality 2017-2018, the prestige Green Star on its two flagships, and has been voted by passengers the best ferry company in the Italia Travel Awards 2017.
