Rhys Spiteri, 28, was granted bail on Sunday after being allegedly caught with 3kg of cannabis.

The St Paul’s Bay resident was arrested on Saturday.

Police believe that the drugs were ready to be trafficked, however defence lawyer Franco Debono said there was no reason to believe that the drugs were not for personal use. Dr Debono also pointed out that there were no civilian eye-witnesses to the affair.

Mr Spiteri pleaded not guilty to trafficking but admitted that the drugs belonged to him.

Bail was granted against a deposit of €10,000 and a personal guarantee of €20,000.

Inspector Malcolm Bonding prosecuted.

Lawyers Franco Debono and Amadeus Cachia were defence counsel.
