A magistrate due to hear David Casa present alleged findings in an FIAU report about minister Konrad Mizzi should first warn the MEP that by some doing he would be incriminating himself in a crime, according to former minister Manuel Mallia.

Information and reports from the FIAU (Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit) are confidential and leaking them is a crime in terms of the law, Dr Mallia said.

Without mentioning Mr Casa by name, Dr Mallia said that should someone still go ahead with revealing the alleged FIAU information, the magistrate must order criminal action as the rule was equal for everyone.

This was what the rule of law was about, he said.

'I am ready to be arrested': Casa

In a reaction to Dr Mallia's comments, Mr Casa said it was disgraceful for a former minister to "advocate for abusing the law in order to conceal the criminal activities of his colleagues".

"Let me be clear Manuel Mallia - I am ready to be arrested if it means exposing the truth," Mr Casa said in reply.

Mr Casa said on Saturday that on Monday he would head to court to present all evidence in his possession to prove Dr Mizzi's connection with corruption and money laundering.

Mr Casa revealed he had been invited by Magistrate Aaron Bugeja to present all evidence in his possession under oath after presenting an application in court on Friday.

The MEP said the damning FIAU report concludes that criminal investigations should start against Minister Mizzi on alleged money laundering and the possible existence of money derived from crime.

Dr Mallia had already insisted, in a parliamentary adjournment speech in November, that criminal action should be taken against anyone leaking alleged FIAU reports.
