Italian Ambassador to Malta Mario Sammartino recently visited the University’s Faculty of Science to hold discussions with its department heads, to tour its research laboratories and to meet its researchers.

The faculty has several ongoing collaborations with Italian institutions, most notably the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR), the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV), as well as leading Italian universities. A lot of research at the faculty, especially that related to quantum technologies, seismic sensing and marine sciences, takes place thanks to these relationships.

The ambassador visited the research laboratories of the Departments of Physics, Geosciences, Biology and Chemistry, where he met researchers and students, some of whom hail from Italy.

University rector Alfred J. Vella, Saviour Zammit, pro-rector for Research and Knowledge Transfer, and Carmen Sammut, Pro-Rector for Student & Staff Affairs and Outreach, also joined in the discussions.
