Bank of Valletta’s executive team recently concluded an intensive Executive Development Programme, which ran over a one-year period.

Designed and developed by the bank’s Training, Ethics and Employee Development Function in collaboration with CASS Business School (University of London), the chief officers at BOV attended this programme that was tailor-made for the top executives of the organisation.

Anthony Scicluna, chief officer heading the bank’s Ethics and Employee Development Function explained: “In today’s fast-paced and highly-regulated financial services environment, it is critical that executives are adept at building new leadership capabilities.”

He explained how this programme was developed to help raise the leadership strength and capabilities at BOV, in line with its strategy that has innovation at its core, enabled through collaborative leadership.

Modular workshops were designed to combine contemporary theoretical insights with a practical and grounded understanding of their application in the day-to-day leadership role. Specific attention was given to challenges that have a significant impact on the banking world, such as strategy, management of risk, regulation, corporate governance, business development, customer behaviour, technology and industry consolidation.

“The programme was an intensive one that saw participants working together in sessions and engaging in healthy discussions, in addition to participating in lectures,” explained Mr Scicluna.

“Bank of Valletta is set to be a learning organisation. For us this is the only way in which we can ensure that we are the leaders in the sector. Training and personal development programmes feature highly and consistently on the bank’s training agenda, with opportunities available to every employee, including excellent support for self-development and learning initiatives undertaken by employees.
