Six councils have been allocated €180,000 to make their community greener, with 245 trees and 18,424 shrubs being planted.

The scheme, being run by the Environment Ministry, will this year benefit Pietà, Qormi, Żabbar, Mdina, Swieqi and Sannat.

The scheme had been started in 2014, and since then 27 councils have benefitted from almost €900,000.

The councils will be given three-quarters of hthe funds now and the balance once the project is completed.
