Malta's three reverse osmosis plants would be able to cover demand in the unlikely event that something were to happen to one of them, the Water Services Corporation said.

Noting that this was the result of considerable investment over the years, the corporation said that the remaining two plants would be able to increase capacity to be able to meet demand.

It also said that if the largest were to fail, then the corporation would still be able to provide sufficient water for a month - more than long enough for the necessary repairs.

The corporation was reacting to a flyer doing the rounds from the Malta Water Association, which it said bore the logo of the University of Malta. The flyer said that if anything were to happen to a plant, Malta would only have enough water for two days.
