National Maritime Museum curator Liam Gauci will deliver a public talk on Ġan Anton Vassallo’s poem Il-Ġifen Tork this evening in Mellieħa.

Written in the 19th century, this poem revolves around the story of a group of Maltese slaves on board an Ottoman galleon who managed to overthrow their captors and escape to Malta with the same vessel. Upon their return to their homeland, they fulfilled their vows at the Mellieħa shrine.

Today’s talk at the Sanctuary of Our Lady in Mellieħa starts at 6.30pm. Admission is free of charge.
