Il-Majjistral Park organises events aimed at explaining the beauty of the park and its history and also to show how to appreciate nature.
As part of its 10th year anniversary, the park has a jam-packed programme of educational events.
Here is what is planned for the coming weeks:
February 17 – The military history of the park
The park, together with Malta Command – WWII Living History, is organising a morning event which will include a presentation on the military history of the park and a short talk about the uniforms and equipment that were used by the King’s Own Malta Regiment during World War II and also by the Royal Marines in the post-war years.
This will be followed by a re-enactment of a drill display and a walk in the park, highlighting features that are a reminder of that era.
March 3: Course on sustainable gardening
For the second year running, the park is organising a 10-session course of two hours per session on sustainable gardening. All the topics covered by this course are aimed at helping garden enthusiasts to enjoy their garden and, at the same time, help the environment.
Participants have the option of either attending the whole course or just those parts that interest them most.
March 9: Shark night
The park is joining Sharklab-Malta toorganise an event highlighting the importance of these grand but often misunderstood sea creatures.
There will be a presentation about the Great White Shark in South African waters followed by a presentation of the same species and other sharks in Mediterranean sea.
Sharklab-Malta will be also setting up an exhibition about their work.
March 17 to 19: WildFlower Fest
The park is celebrating spring and the multitude of wild flowers that the season brings with it with a weekend of activities, including workshops on the propagation of local wild plants, macro photography, drawing/painting and cross-stitch, together with botanical guided tours of the park.
For more information about these events, send an e-mail to walks@majjistral.org or like the Majjistral Park Facebook page. Groups, including schools, can book for a guided tour of the park, and walks can be tailor-made to fit a group’s needs. The park is, however, accessible 24/7 and can be enjoyed at any time.
