Palazzo de La Salle will today play host to a filigree demonstration by Kevin Attard, who has been working in filigree for the past 30 years.

During the event, the filigree artist who has given the traditional craft a new twist, will be explaining the nuances of the art and answering questions by the public.

“Filigree is part of our national heritage but, unfortunately, it seems destined to die out as there are currently only few people in Malta who still practise the craft… I’m currently the youngest and I’m not young, so the idea behind this demonstration is to showcase the magic of the craft in the hope that others will be inspired to take it up,” Attard said.

Being on the eve of Valentine’s Day, Attard will also be making small filigree hearts for anyone who wishes to acquire one at a small cost.

The filigree demonstration is being held today between 11am and 5pm at Palazzo de La Salle, Republic Street, Valletta.
