Żabbar local council has formally objected to a development application for a McDonalds restaurant in Labour Avenue.

The decision was taken following unanimous backing to a motion moved by mayor Marc Vella Bonnici.

The council said in a letter to the Planning Authority that most of the proposed development would be outside the development zone and the rest in an area earmarked for housing.

The planned development would cause traffic and parking problems, more so as drive-through restaurants could cause backlogs in distributor roads.

A traffic study was not conducted nor requested prior to the validation of the application.

The development would also case waste management problems and increase noise pollution, the council said.
