An elderly man died after he slipped on the Senglea waterfront on Saturday morning, the police said. 

The 79-year-old, a resident of Senglea, was walking on Triq ix-Xatt when he slipped around 9.30am.

A medical team rushed to assist him but he was certified dead shortly afterwards. 

It is not yet known whether he slipped as a result of the rainwater. 

A magisterial inquiry is underway. The police are investigating.
