BIRKIRKARA 2
Grech 26, 71
SLIEMA WANDERERS 1
Milincenau 54
Jake Grech kept Birkirkara momentum going as his brace enabled the Stripes to see off Sliema Wanderers and bag their eighth win on the trot.
Birkirkara opened the scoring on 25 minutes when Ognjen Rolovic squared the ball towards Grech whose rasping drive drifted past the surprised Glenn Zammit.
Sliema pushed their opponents deep into the own half after the break.
On 54 minutes Edmond Agius weaved his way towards the area before laying the ball to Mattias Muchardi. The Argentine midfielder intelligently released Milincenau who ichipped the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper Kristijan Naumovski.
This was the first goal Birkirkara had conceded in almost 10 hours of football.
Birkirkara, naturally, were stunned at having conceded a goal but they soon fought back.
Their superior punch upfront was beyond question.
The hard-working Mislav Andelkovic played the ball to Grech whose attempt was partially blocked by John Mintoff, but the former Ħamrun Spartans midfielder reacted quickly to clip the ball past the onrushing Zammit.
