A husband charged with living off the earnings of his wife's prostitution has been remanded in custody.

Italian-national Gianluca Ferorelli, originally from Bari but currently residing at Żurrieq, since his relocation to Malta two years ago, was taken to court under arrest on Friday to face prostitution-related charges.

Following his not guilty plea, Inspector John Spiteri from the police vice squad strongly objected to the request for bail pointing out that the main prosecution witness was the wife.

The wife worked at a massage parlour in Gżira, whose owner was earlier arraigned under arrest to face prostitution-related charges.

Snce the man allegedly knew the clients visiting the parlour, the risk of tampering with evidence was ‘massive’, the inspector argued.

The court, presided over by Magistrate Donatella Frendo Dimech, upheld the prosecution’s objection, thereby turning down the request for bail.

Lawyer Simon Micallef Stafrace was legal aid counsel.
