I have read with interest correspondence on the American University of Malta saga.

I too agree with the notion raised that a balance needs to be reached between the economic and environmental requirements in view of our very limited resources. It is with this in mind that an equitable solution may exist in the case of both the AUM and the other two ODZ developments in Marsascala, that is, the recently-approved fuelling station and the proposed commercial development.

Just prior to the last election, the present government had committed to remove the Sant’Antnin recycling plant, which has been a source of multiple inconveniences to us residents. If this site were to be vacated, it could easily accommodate the mentioned three ODZ developments and, at the same time, provide a reasonable buffer zone from the locality’s neighbourhoods. This proposal could easily allow for an appropriate underground parking also serving the adjacent recreational area and incorporate other facilities for the use of the community such as the local council.
