Readers will probably be interested in viewing a photograph, taken around 1910, showing my late father, Emmanuel Xuereb, and his younger sister, Mary Xuereb later Audibert, in carnival costume as Żepp and Grezz, stereotypical village man and his wife.

The photograph was taken in the studio of S.L. Cassar (Valletta, 1855-1928) who specialised in photographing children and is described in Kevin Casha’s excellent Photography in Malta (2016) as “perhaps the most artistic of the early crop of Malta-born photographers”.

The photo is delicately hand-coloured.
