Four masterpieces from MUŻA-Mużew Nazzjonali tal-Arti are featuring prominently in a major exhibition in Italy, called Maestri d’Olanda e di Fiandra nei mari del sud – La pittura Olandese e Fiamminga nelle collezioni di Giuseppe Bellanti, Giovanni Messina e Camillo d’Errico.

The four masterpieces from the national collection on display in Palazzo d’Errico, Potenza, are Matthias Stomer’s The Lamentation over the Dead Abel, The Beheading of St John the Baptist, The Parable of the Good Samaritan and David De Haen’s Heraclitus/Tears of St Peter.

For the last six months these paintings, together with other masterpieces from the national collection, were on display at the exhibition Ribera, Stomer e Mattia Preti Da La Valletta 2018 a Matera 2019 held in the Museo Nazionale d’Arte Medievale e Moderna della Basilicata in Palazzo Lanfranchi in Matera.

In fact the other paintings will stay in storage at Matera until the end of the exhibition in Potenza.

These masterpieces will also feature prominently at MUŻA-Mużew Nazzjonali tal-Arti, the new national-community art museum as one of a number of legacy projects for Valletta 2018.
