Over the last 10 years, more in the last five, the governmentcarried out various worthy improvements in Buskett. Farmhouses have been restored, a considerable tract of land that for long years had been left abandoned has been covered with soil and surrounded by well-built dry stone walls, many dead trees removed and a few hundreds of trees planted.

Still, unfortunately, work has proceeded at a rather slow pace. Apparently, work is carried out only in the morning, at least we have never seen any work being carried out in our various afternoon visits there.

During our last stroll, we could see to our dismay that some vandals too did some work to render their visit memorable.

So now notices requesting visitors not to dismantle the rubble walls had to be put up. These neither embellish the place nor do us honour as a nation. As if vandals ever care about such notices.

When we asked the only guardian we met whether the damage we had seen was recent the answer we got was so unconnected to our question and made it amply clear the man was not only unaware of the damage but also not exactly up to it.

Surely, this precious site and the costly improvements and repairs carried out over the years deserve better protection, including a few more alert guardians.
