The feast of St Blaise was celebrated in the locality of San Blas in Nadur last Sunday. Following marches by the Mnarja Band, Gozo Bishop Mario Grech concelebrated Mass together with archpriest Jimmy Xerri, Mgr Salv Pace, Can. Joe Cardona, Mgr Joseph Attard and Fr Bertrand Vella, OFM,Cap. After Mass, Mgr Grech led the blessing of throats ceremony.

St Blaise is traditionally believed to intercede in cases of throat illnesses, especially for fish bones stuck in the throat.

Bishop Grech also blessed pets, fruit, vegetables, artworks and classic vehicles put up on show for the occasion. Members of the Military Vehicles Club (Gozo) exhibited various military and classic cars, including a Daimler Ferret Scout Car, which was exhibited for the first time.

Attending the celebration, besides San Blas residents, were Arka Respite Centre residents.
