I refer to the letter by Ray Bondin entitled ‘Due publicity’ (January 13).

As a national carrier, Air Malta has always been at the forefront to participate and promote events of national importance. Over the years, it assisted various major events, including the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, Malta’s presidency of the European Council and the European Union’s Our Ocean conference. V18 was no exception.

Six years ago, in March 2012, on its own initiative, Air Malta rebranded one of its aircraft to promote Valletta as the European Capital of Culture for 2018. Since then, this ‘flying billboard’ has flown at least four times a day operating over 9,000 flights and promoted V18 in primary capital city airports across Europe.

Over the last months, the airline has given this event wide complimentary coverage in its inflight magazine, Bizzilla, included it in blog posts on its website www.airmalta.com and in audio visual content on board its aircraft and also affixed decals on all aircraft near doors. Passengers are also being greeted with special inflight announcements promoting the event, while all Air Malta employees are promoting it in their e-mail signatures.

Such assistance given by Air Malta forms part of the airline’s corporate social responsibility initiatives whereby it supports organisations that work for the Maltese community.

As the island’s national carrier, Air Malta is the only airline flying from Malta that fully supports the local community in all possible ways.

No other airline operating to Malta shows such commitment to national events and institutions and provides continued support to voluntary and non-governmental organisations like Air Malta does.
