A man who worked as a parker without being licensed to do so, has been sentenced to six months imprisonment after ignoring a court order not to go to 'his' parking lot again. He was also fined €2,000.

Edward Farrugia, 39, had originally been arraigned for harassing motorists near Hastings Garden in Valletta. On January 5, Magistrate Joe Mifsud fined him €500, the maximum allowed by law, and banned him from the area.

But he returned, and was arrested again last week.

In today's judgement, the court, in jailing Mr Farrugia, asked the Director of Prisons to help him get over a drug problem.

Transport Malta said its officials had repeatedly asked Mr Farrugia to leave the area. The Authority also instituted two court cases against him, yet he returned, harassing more drivers.

Transport Malta said drivers can park for free in public parking spaces. Parkers must be licensed and hold a Transport Malta tag. Tipping is totally voluntary.

Abuse can be reported on telephone 80072393.
