A 22-year-old robbed a pharmacy and tried to make his getaway in a carjacked vehicle before giving up - because he could not work a manual transmission.

Police in southern New Mexico said the armed robbery suspect tried, and failed, to get the car moving himself before turning to its owner for help.

The car's owner dropped 22-year-old Devin Michael Saucedo at home before calling 911 and giving police the suspect's address.

Mr Saucedo now faces charges of armed robbery, kidnapping and aggravated assault.
