An agreement signed in 2013 between the ADRC Trust and the University of Malta establishing the Alistair Chalmers Bursary was recently renewed and widened to include support for other activities of the University’s department of Spanish and Latin American studies, such as seminars and publications.

The new agreement was signed by the University rector Prof. Alfred Vella and Roderick and Mary Rose Chalmers, on behalf of the ADRC Trust, in the presence of their daughter Amanda Kaye and her children Alexander, Francesca and Ellie, and their son Nicholas Chalmers and his wife Julie and their children Chiara and Sole.

The ADRC Trust was founded in 2013 by members of the Chalmers family in memory of their late son and brother Alistair, whose interests included Hispanic studies, especially Latin America, where he travelled extensively and did voluntary work. That same year the trust entered into an agreement with the University to fund the annual bursary, which is awarded annually to enable an undergraduate student at the University department to attend residential courses at a Portuguese or Spanish university.

Members of the second and third generation of the Chalmers family also attended the signing ceremony in the University’s Council Room.Members of the second and third generation of the Chalmers family also attended the signing ceremony in the University’s Council Room.
