I recently visited a relative at Karin Grech Hospital. Entering the main gate of St Luke’s Hospital one is greeted by a bright and cheery billboard welcoming you to the two Vitals Global Healthcare hospitals. It apologises for any inconvenience caused by the “improvement” works.

Works there may be but one is challenged to find out what they are and where they are happening. The place has a sorry, abandoned look about it.

Proceeding to the VGH Karin Grech Hospital, an encouraging, big blue sign over the main door declares: “Quality matters.” However, on entering the building there is no sign of quality anywhere. The facility looks like something from the 1970s, with mismatched furniture, rusting equipment, old tiles, stained suspended ceilings, old toilets and bathroom fixtures, etc.

The only ‘quality’ in the space is the sterling service offered to the patients by a very dedicated staff, despite having to work in such dismal surroundings.

Vitals are said to have been given millions of euros by the government. Could they not, at least, have spent a few thousands to give the place a facelift?
