There were only 14 applications made since 2013 for farms to be redeveloped for residential use, of which only nine were approved.

According to information given by Infrastructure Minister Ian Borg in reply to a Parliamentary Question by MP Toni Bezzina, three applications to the Planning Authority were turned down, one was withdrawn and one remains pending.

The applications range from change of use of disused pig farms, to upgrading agricultural stores to dwellings for full-time farmers.
