One of the five frescoes along the road leading to Ta’ Pinu Sanctuary was vandalised last Sunday. The frescoes, The Pilgrims’ Way, by Sergio Favotto, were donated to the sanctuary by the artist.

Fr Roberto Gauci, director of Eikon – a new centre for projects of liturgical art – said since that the painting was encased by glass, so luckily no damage was done to the fresco itself.

Gozo Bishop Mario Grech deplored the act and urged people to help police investigating the act. He also prayed to Our Lady of Ta’ Pinu for those who committed  the crime.

In a statement, the Gozo Ministry deplored this act. It said that such acts of vandalism were of no benefit to anyone.
