CASSAR. On January 19, ALBERT (ex-Royal Engineers), of Ħamrun, aged 89, passed peacefully away comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his passing his son Ronald and his partner Jenny, his daughter Louise and her husband John, his grandchildren Janice and her husband Nick, Kenneth and his wife Stefania, and Shawn, his sister Annie, relatives and friends. Mass praesente cadavere will be said tomorrow, Monday, January 22, at 2pm at the Immaculate Conception church, Ħamrun, followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Id-Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be appreciated. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

LAKEY. On January 19, at Sir Anthony Mamo Hospital, VINCENT, of Newcastle-upon-Tyne residing in Gżira, aged 73, passed peacefully away comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his wife Antoinette née Falzon, their son David and his wife Lynette, his grandson Benjamin and his brother Peter, his relatives and friends. Mass praesente cadavere will be said tomorrow, Monday, January 22, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel church, Gżira, at 2pm followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. The family would like to thank wholeheartedly the doctors and carers for their complete dedication. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

MAGRO. On January 20, 2018, His Excellency Mgr Sylvester Carmel Magro, OFM, of the Order of Friars Minor, Apostolic Vicar Emeritus of Benghazi and Titular Bishop of Salde, aged 76, passed peacefully away at Mater Dei Hospital, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his brother friars of the Maltese Franciscan Province of St Paul the Apostle, his brothers and sisters, Mary, widow of Joseph Casha, Paul, Gemma and her husband Joseph Azzopardi, Joe and his wife Pauline, Agnes and her husband Joseph Said, Carmen, widow of Charles Farrugia, and Rita, nephews and nieces, among whom Fr Joseph Magro, OFM, other relatives and friends, especially the Catholic community of Benghazi. The funeral cortège leaves Mater Dei Hospital today, Sunday, January 21, at 8.30am for Saqqajja Square, Rabat, and will proceed to the Franciscan Friary in St Paul’s Street, Rabat, accompanied by the combined L’Isle Adam and Sliema Bands. He will lie in state at the friary today between 9.30am and noon and tomorrow, Monday, January 22, between 7.30 and 9.30am. At 9.30am tomorrow, the funeral cortège will then proceed to the Metropolitan Cathedral in Mdina for the funeral Mass praesente cadavere at 10am led by Archbishop  Charles Scicluna, followed by interment at the Franciscan chapel at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Domus Pacis Franciscan Retirement Friary will be greatly appreciated. His family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Domus Pacis Franciscan Retirement Friary, Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq.

MICALLEF. On January 18, at his residence in Iklin, JOHN (il-Gypsy), of Birkirkara, aged 81, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Rose, his brother Freddie and his wife Salvina, his sister Mary and her husband John, his in-laws and their respective families, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral cortège leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow, Monday, January 22, at 8am for the Transfiguration parish church, Lija, where Mass præsente cadavere will be celebrated at 8.30am, followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Id-Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, and Radju Marija, Rabat, will be appreciated. Lord grant him eternal rest.

SCIRIHA. On January 19, CARMEN, aged 79, passed away peacefully to eternal life surrounded by her family and comforted by the rites of Holy Church.  She leaves to mourn her loss her husband Salvino, her children Mario and his wife Joyce, Marthese and her husband Twanny Mallia, Michael and his wife Tania, John Paul and his wife Analise, her grandchildren Matthew, Luca and his girlfriend Esther, Victoria and her boyfriend Carl, Russell, Salvatore and Francesco-Carlo, her sister Jessie Degiovanni, her in-laws Victoria and her husband Charles Degiorgio, Joan, widow of the late Joe Sciriha, Nicholas and his wife Joyce of Australia, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow, Monday, January 22, at 7.45am for Christ the King parish church, Paola, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 8.30am followed by private interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. Lord grant her eternal rest and peace. Until we meet again.
