I read Martin Scicluna’s opinion piece on abortion with amusement and bemusement.

He is an interesting example of contradictory ideas sharing the same space in a person’s head.

He staunchly opposes “medieval”, “obscurantist” religion but then campaigns for the restoration of a Church. (In secular France, they oppose religion and demolish churches.)

He staunchly opposes corruption but then supports Joseph Muscat’s neo-liberal, sorry, ‘Labour’ Party with its Panama baggage. (Those who oppose corruption do not campaign for politicians protecting their friends implicated in stinky imbroglios.)

Now he admits that there is no demand for abortion in Malta but still staunchly supports examining the situation.

I mean, even “bemused” is not enough to convey any sane person’s reaction to this pattern of non sequitur thinking.

If there is no demand, why on earth waste resources to examine the situation? If there is no demand, there is no market. Period.

Unless, that is, Scicluna is of the opinion that a market should be created for abortion services...
